Lisa's Promise

Every company is started for a reason. We were too.

Anti-Aging & Vitality Centers was created because of a promise. A promise to Lisa.

In January of 2001, Lisa, a vibrant and beautiful 38 year old woman passed away.

Lisa was a loving mother, a beloved sister and daughter and a friend to so many.

She was also the love of my life. We were engaged to be married.

As a mother Lisa was educating her precious 11 year old daughter to enter the wonders of becoming a woman.

As an artist, photographer and graphic designer, she was elated that her new business was beginning to take hold.

And as my fiancée and best friend she was overjoyed at our fast approaching wedding day. We had just built our dream home, planned a beautiful wedding and a honeymoon in Hawaii.

Our lives were full of hope, joy and promise.

In November of 2000, Lisa was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

She never smoked. She always ate healthful foods, was physically active and regularly exercised for many years. Lisa would faithfully visit her doctor whenever she experienced any health concerns.

It did not seem fair that a person who took such good care of her health should be confronted with such a frightening diagnosis.

Ever positive, we would face this dilemma head on.

In January 2001, only 10 weeks after the shocking diagnosis, Lisa was admitted to a major Minneapolis hospital. After several more days, her health was failing fast. As she was rushed to the intensive care unit she shared her love for her family and said to me, "I love you. Do everything!"

With all my love, I promised.

Two days later, Lisa died.

My promise to do everything to preserve her health and life came far too late.

I asked myself over and over "what went wrong?"

Could it had been that doctors who must often see their patients within a 5 to 7 minute visit may have missed something important? Or was it the act of reading her chart while attempting to listen to her that somehow allowed some crucial detail to go unnoticed? Was there too much focus on responding to disease rather than preventing it from ever occurring?

Several years later it became clear to me that all of the above contributed to something being missed. Sadly, today, all of these things continue to be contributing factors in the loss of love and promise of life. It is a story that is repeated over and over in our country every day. And though I can do nothing to change what happened to Lisa, I can honor the promise, "Lisa's Promise" by sharing it with others.

In early 2005 Deborah Haynes, a forward thinking colleague, joined me to create the Anti-Aging & Vitality Centers. As a Registered Nurse for many years she was well acquainted with the anguish that comes from the ravages of illness and disease and was convinced that there was a better way to get in front of it by practicing proactive healthcare. In mid 2006, Dr. Felicitas Juguilon, a gifted, compassionate and highly trained Anti-Aging and family practice physician who shared a philosophy for prevention joined the team.

Together we opened our first Anti-Aging & Vitality Center in Cleveland, Ohio. A Center focused on giving each person what they were often missing:

  • The time to talk and be heard.
  • The caring, concern and attention to details.
  • The knowledgeable and compassionate physician that understands the challenge of current and potential health problems and is dedicated to overcoming them now and for years to come with individualized safe, effective science based treatment protocols.

Our Centers now operate in Cleveland Ohio, Atlanta, Georgia, Dallas, Texas and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a growing organization, we have committed ourselves, our physicians and our staff members to make Lisa's Promise - Our Promise.
